Our winter events are free and held for your enjoyment!

When the cold wind blows and you have nothing to do on Saturdays, we’ve got you covered.  That’s when we hold our Free Saturday Events.  They are fun for you and fun for us.  You can learn more about fly fishing, fly tying and special interests pertaining to the Great Smoky Mountains.  You can relax and spend time with fly fishermen just like you.  Little River Outfitters in Townsend, Tennessee is a great place to visit during the winter months.  Below is our Free Events Schedule for January 2014.  All you have to do is show up. No reservation necessary.

Free Fly Tying Demonstrations and Discussion
10 am - 2 pm

John Thurman is an aquatic biologist working as a consultant in many of our local tailwaters. He knows more about aquatic insects than anyone you know. He is also an avid fly fisherman, practicing his sport here and in other states. He specializes in tying small, easy-to-tie trout flies that work.

Josh is a professional fly fishing guide. He floats clients down many of our tailwaters for trout and smallmouth bass. Additionally, he guides anglers in the Great Smoky Mountains for trout. Josh offers raft fishing trips on the lower Little River when the flows allow. Josh is considered a smallmouth bass expert.

Frank Bryant is the founder and President of Chota Outdoor Gear, makers of fine waders, wading boots and accessories. Meet Frank and hear his facinating success story based on quality products and excellent customer service. Frank personally designs all of his products.

Mike is a professional guide who has been serving clients on the Clinch and South Holston Rivers for two decades. Using drift boats and rafts, he also pioneered guiding on the Holston River. Mike knows tailwater trout fishing as well as anyone in this region. He also loves to guide anglers for smallmouth bass on East Tennessee Rivers.

Mike Bryant lives in Townsend, Tennessee and is President of the Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited. He is an avid Smokies angler. He is also an accomplished tarpon angler. Mike has been trained by some famous fly tyers including Chris Helm and others.

Tim Ivey is a professional fly tyer and demonstrator. He is sponsored by Whiting Farms as well as other manufacturers in the fly fishing industry. Tim has traveled to many fly fishing shows and worked as a fly tying demonstrator. He lives in Georgia and loves designing and making bass flies and poppers.

Buzz Buffington probably fly fishes more than anyone you know. He loves fishing in the Smokies but spends more time on the Clinch River. He is an expert angler on the Clinch. His fly patterns catch fish. Buzz is also an excellent instructor and active with the Clinch River Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

Kent Edmonds lives in Georgia where he is a professional guide and Certified Fly Fishing Instructor. He is also a fly fishing manufacturers representive for Temple Fork Fly Rods and Rainy's Flies. Kent is known by many of us as the inventor of the Stealth Bomber Fly. This pattern has been received well by Tennessee warmwater anglers. Kent will spend part of the day doing a tying presentation and also offer a free casting clinic for everyone.

Sarah Weeks is the Director of Development for Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. She and her organization have raised millions of dollars to help fund Park projects, including the fisheries department. Sarah is also a fly fisher, fly tyer and active member of the Clinch River Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Come in to meet Sarah and learn all about Friends of the Smokies.

February Super Saturday Free events include such notable fly tyers as Michael (Rocky) Cox, Alex Quick, Mike Adams, David Perry and Roger Lowe. It just worked out this way but, they are all guides.
