Man fly fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains

How many people got their start in our beginner fly fishing schools?  Around 2,000 people.   Some of our students have a decade and a half of experience under their belt.

We have been teaching beginner fly fishing classes to men, women and children for 15 years.  We have 5 instructors on staff.  Our classes begin in March and run through October, twice per month.  We take off in August.  We have a Day 1 class to get you started casting and learning lots of the technical stuff about fly fishing.  On Day 2, you, your classmates and instructors will be on the stream in the Smokies learning how to catch a trout. Our Beginner Fly Fishing Classes start at $125 per day.

We also offer private instruction for one person or groups up to three people.  This is handy if you can’t fit our schedule with yours.  So, CLICK HERE to learn more and see our 2013 schedule. Isn’t it time you learned to fly fish?

Fishing Report March 13, 2013, Townsend, Tennessee

Angler’s Spring is finally here and it’s about time.  What a Winter this has been.  The Smokies streams were chocked full of water and cold most of the time.  The tailwaters were churning water by sluice and by generators non stop.  All we could do is talk about fishing and tie flies.  Well, that seems to be over.  Long awaited Anglers Spring starts right now.

We’re looking at warmer temperatures with highs in the 60’s and lows in the 40’s starting this weekend.  That will help get the freestone wild trout streams going.  When the generators are off, the tailwaters are fishing well.  Smallmouth bass will be getting active in the lowland rivers.  The lakes to our south are starting to offer some bass action.  We may be a week or two away from that here.  It’s all coming together, a month later than last year.

In our back yard, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Spring hatches include Blue Wing Olives and Blue Quills.  We have not seen that many Quill Gordons yet.  Trout are feeding on dry flies when the sporadic hatches occur.  As soon as the hatches end, the dry fly fishing does the same thing.  Switch to nymphs to save the day.  Last weekend, the water temperature in Little River topped out at 49 degrees.

ur time has come.  Keep up with daily updates on our Fishing Report by CLICKING HERE.  More importantly, get out there and fish.
