Townsend, Tennessee - Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Welcome to the Fishing Report. I have been having some technical difficulties this morning getting the Fishing Report created. Some computer hardware issues slowed me down by forcing me to re-route a few things to get one computer in the store online. So now I'm writing the report on the Mac....to transfer it to a PC to get it uploaded. We are multi-platform here at Little River Outfitters.
It is cold and clear here in Townsend. There are a few scattered clouds but otherwise it is sunny. The air is cold. Today and tomorrow's highs are only supposed to be in the low to middle 30's. That is the forecast for the valley. Temperatures in the mountains will be colder than that. Looking ahead towards next weekend the forecast is calling for a warmup with temperatures in the high 50's.
I couldn't find my thermometer this morning when I stopped at the swinging bridge. I figure water temps have to be atleast in the low 40's maybe even a bit colder. The water levels are almost exactly normal for this time of year. The flow this morning is 2.29 feet or 311 cfs. The rivers are clear.
We were hearing some decent reports from anglers over the weekend. This is Winter time fishing so a good report is "I caught a few trout". Most everyone is using nymphs with weight to get them down to the bottom. I wouldn't expect any dry fly action in the Smokies for the next several days.
There is still space in the Beginner Fly Tying Class coming up next Saturday on January 7th. It is a great way to get started or to ust see if you would like to tie flies.
I'm going to keep the report short because it is already about an hour late. If you go fishing today bring the gloves, the split shot, and don't venture too far from the car just incase you slip and fall in.
Happy New Year!!
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
