Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

Welcome to the Fishing Report from the Great Smoky Mountains in Townsend, Tennessee. Sorry for the delay this morning. I was firing up my laptop and it decided it needed to do updates. Computers always seem to want to do an update when you need it running the quickest. It is running now so on to the Fishing Report.

It didn't get as cold last night so water levels maintained and are warming today than they have been over the last several days. Warmer yes....but still cold. The temperature on the Little River gauge is giving a reading of 38.1 F. Water levels are looking really good. The gauge is giving a reading of 1.94 feet or 228 c.f.s. just a little lower than the daily normal of 304 c.f.s. This is a very good fishing level if the temperatures would cooperate.

If you decide to go fishing today bundle up good and look for sunny sections of stream. I would fish nymphs with plenty of extra weight on them to get down to where the trout are. Two nymphs and a strike indicator can be a good technique. Some people will put a larger, heavier nymph on them trail a smaller nymph between.

Dan, Byron and I have been working hard on a re-do of the online catalog. My hope is to get it live by March. We might get it done. It is new software that we are learning how to use. Each product that we add on gets quicker and easier to add. By the time we make it to the 1,000 product goal we ought to be experts.

I'm excited about this new site. It will be more user friendly with better search features and it is going to look better. We will more easily be able to have different product images and even the ability to imbed product videos. January and February are slow in the Shop so it will give us time to really make headway.

We are holding several fly tying classes in January and February. Check the schedule by CLICKING HERE. This is an opportunity for you to begin the fascinating hobby of fly tying, or further your skills by taking more advanced lessons.

This weekend's FREE Fly Tying Demo is Buzz Buffington and Dave Harrell. It is from 10 am till 2 pm. The weather forecast is calling for the 50's and a chance of rain. Perfect for stopping by and watching some great fly tyers.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
