Townsend, Tennessee - Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee. There is still a chill in the air but it feels much warmer than it has been lately. Broken clouds hang above Townsend this morning but they should clear out as the weekend begins. The forecast is looking very good for Saturday and Sunday.

Fishing will still be tough but it should improve some in the next couple of days as we have some sunny, warm weather. Nymphs down deep are still going to be the most productive. Water temps are still cold so the fish are going to be lethargic. Surprisingly it doesn't take much of an increase in water temps to spur them into action. I would fish in the afternoon and look for areas where the sun has been on the water.

Sean McKay of Smoky Mountain Troutfitters fished up on Paint Creek yesterday with Dylan Embree. From the photos he posted on Facebook it looked like they had a great day on the water. A couple of the photos showed the road completely covered with snow. Good thing for 4 wheel drive. Delayed Harvest streams can be a fun way to spend a Winter day. Small streams filled with tons of sometimes larger than average trout is a hoot.

Bill Boyd and Bill Boyd Sr. (aka the Dubbing Teasers) will be here at the shop tomorrow giving a FREE Fly Tying Demo from 10am till 2pm. If you have the time I recommend stopping by. They are highly informative and entertaining.

As of 10am this morning: US 441/Newfound Gap Road is open. The only roads closed due to snow and ice on Townsend end of the Park are Upper Tremont Road and Forge Creek Road in Cades Cove.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
