Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. This weekend is going to be the last nice weather we are going to see for several days. Time to get out and enjoy the sun.

Water conditions on the Little River are improving. The streamflow gauge is giving a reading of 2.71 feet or 644 c.f.s. This is higher than the daily normal of 354 c.f.s. Water temperatures fell again last night down to 40.28 F. You are going to need to let is warm up a bit before fishing will improve.

Nymphs sunk down deep are going to be the best bet. Prince Nymphs, Pheasant Tails, Tellicos are all good.

New products are going to start trickling in over the next few weeks. Yesterday some Orvis Hydros SL reels arrived. This real is pretty amazing. Not only is it BETTER than its predecessor but it is also LESS expensive. That doesn't happen very often. Some of you might have seen that Orvis put a recall out on these reels a couple of weeks ago. They then ended that recall. It turns out it was a bit of an over reaction on Orvis' part. At least they were trying to be proactive in making sure that only the best products have the Orvis logo on them. Apparently what happened was someone at a shop was loading 50 pound gel spun onto the size V model under extreme pressure. That did something to warp the spool. We aren't sure why they were loading the reel so tightly but that kind of situtation is far from normal. The Hydros SL is going to be a fantastic reel if you are looking for a large arbor with a great drag.

Mike Adams and Rocky Cox are here doing FREE fly tying demos this morning. Both are great fly tyers and full of stories. Come on by and watch for awhile before heading up to the mountains.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
