Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and East Tennnessee.

Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee.  Light snow is falling.  The temperature outside is 36 degrees so we don’t expect any accumulation on the streets.  I can see Great Smoky Mountains National Park from my office window.  There appears to be more snow up there.  Kathy’s Grace Hill Bed and Breakfast is a good indicator.  Her business is the highest (elevation) structure in our County.  When her roof is white, I know there is snow in the mountains.  Her roof is white right now.  We are expecting snow in East Tennessee today.  It is going to be cold and windy as well.  Traffic was light this morning.  I might have seen 4 or 5 vehicles.

Little River is flowing at a rate of 269 cubic feet per second (cfs).  Median flow for this date is 278 cfs.  The water temperature was 43 degrees at 7:50 am.

I’m going to say that fishing is somewhere between good and slow.  Look at the Fishing Gauge above.  That gauge uses water temperature and fishing reports to determine the reading.  Actually, I designed that gauge years ago in Adobe Illustrator.  I made 8 or 10 different versions of it and that page can be accessed any time.  I simply click and drag the gauge I want to use into the dashboard image that is built in Adobe Photoshop.  I change the numbers on the Dash Board and send it to Never-Never Land on our remote server.  When you open the Fishing Report, there it is.  I had to buy the font called “Digital”.  The green numbers you see are typed using that font.

Jack and Anthony went fishing yesterday in the Park.  They were looking for big fish.  I don’t know how well they did.  If you go fishing today, dress warm, watch for falling limbs, don’t fall in and use heavily weighted nymphs.  I would avoid the higher elevations of the Great Smoky Mountains.  We may get some real snow up there.

It is going to be very cold tonight.  The water temperature will drop.  Fishing will be slow tomorrow and Monday.

Mike Bone and Gary McCown are tying at the shop today or at least I hope they are.  Right now the Weather Service is leaning toward no snow accumulation on the streets today.  Well, wait a minute.  Now the temperature outside is 33 degrees and it is dropping.  I guess we could have some snow on the roads.  I don’t know, it’s your call.  Check the weather forecast and make your decision.  Also, road conditions in other areas of East Tennessee might be worse than what we have here now.

I will be working on the Fly Line Department of our Online Store.  I finished Leaders and Tippet yesterday.  My mission to re-design 1,000 pages on our website continues.  Navigation is changing.  Shopping is going to be much easier.  Many of those 1,000 pages will be combined with optional shopping features available.  I am spending more time on photography too this time.  The main part of the site, the information pages will launch all at once, hopefully in late March.  The online catalog is being built live.  Right now there are no items in the Fly Line Department.  By tonight there will be several, I hope.

10:00 UPDATE: The roads are fine so far. Mike Bone and Gary McCown are here waiting for you. Gary has a warmwater fly fishing slide show set up in the classroom.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.  It is going to be a pretty day in the Smokies.
