Townsend, Tennessee - Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Welcome to the Fishing Report. Lightning was flashing and thunder was rumbling this morning as I stopped to take the water temperature near the Swinging Bridge. The river was still running clear but I could tell the mud was coming. Glenn was up at Tremont this morning waiting for the lighting to stop so he could fish. He said that as he was coming out of the Park the river getting very muddy near the Park boundary. Paula had pictures of hail which fell at her house this morning.
Water levels on the streamflow gauge are still sitting at 2.58' or 440cfs. I expect this will rise over the next couple of hours.
Overall fishing has been good lately. Water temps are warm for this time of year. It was 54F this morning. Bugs have been hatching for over a month now. Anglers are using a variety of flies. Large mayflies such as Quill Gordons and March Brown have been doing well. Caddis and some stoneflies are also hatching. Fishing continues to be better from mid-day through afternoon as water temps rise, especially if you prefer dry flies.
Spring merchandise is starting to roll in. We received some felt sole Simms wading boots. We have the new Orvis Hydros and 3D fly lines. We also just got a big re-stock of Scientific Anglers lines as well as Ross Reels.
i'm going to keep this short as it is already a bit late. I had to remember where all the graphics and different information needed to do the fishing report were filed away.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
