Townsend, Tennessee - Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Welcome to the Fishing Report. The sky is clear above a foggy morning here in Townsend. The TroutFest banquet was last night. Byron told me that it was a huge success. He didn't have a tally on the numbers but he seemed very pleased. The TroutFest festival starts at 9:00 AM this morning. If you are anywhere close to East Tennessee stop by. You can see a schedule of this weekend's events on the TroutFest.org website or click here
Frank Bryant from Chota just stopped in. He is running a promo this weekend at TroutFest. If you buy a pair of Chota waders or Chota boots and take your Little River receipt to Frank he'll give you a Chota Hat. It is a nice hat.
Lefty Kreh was our first customer this morning. He was a little early but I figured I'd unlock the door.
Water levels are up a tiny bit from yesterday and the streams look great. The Little River is flowing clear. Water temp at the Park Boundary was 62F. If it gets hot in the afternoon it is just about wet wading weather. I even saw a yellow sally when I was taking the temp.
People have been doing very well these last several days. Light colored dry fly patterns are good in the afternoon and evenings. Nymphs like Pheasant Tails and Tellico Nymphs have been good most of the day.
Alex from Blackberry was over on the Holston River the other day and said that the fishing was incredible. Fish were taking caddis dries, emergers and soft hackle wet flies.
If you get the chance to get out of the house today make TroutFest your destination. It is at the Townsend Visitor Center. It is hard to miss. There are huge tents out behind the center and pleanty of signs. There is no cost for TroutFest today and Sunday. Remember, the money raised at TroutFest is given by the Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited directly to fisheries projects in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Thanks for being here with us.
