Townsend, Tennessee - Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Welcome to the Fishing Report. There is severe thunderstorm watches around the region but this morning it is sunny and comfortable here in Townsend. Water levels are still a little on the low side at only 1.72' on the gauge. A bit of rain would be a welcome thing. The streams are clear and running at a good temp.

Glenn Allgood stopped in yesterday afternoon on his way back from fishing in the mountains. He said fishing was good for him....especially the 16 inch brown that he caught below Metcalf Bottoms. It has been a good year for fish size in the Smokies. from the reports I've heard the average trout is larger than normal this year. Now with that statement out there it isn't like you are going to go to Metcalf and catch a 20 inch rainbow. You still have to go to a tailwater to do that. Rainbows in the 9 - 11 inch range definitely more abundant this year.

Sunny and warm in the mountains, I would be tying on a dry fly today. Light colored flies such as yellow stonefly patterns and small sulphur patterns ( sizes 14 - 18 )ought to work well. In the higher elevation streams and brook trout waters, try a chartreuse stonefly or a general attractor pattern like a thunderhead.
Nymphs are still working well. A Green Weenie makes an excellent dropper fly for this time of year. Ant patterns are good especially with windy days when terrestrials will be blown out of trees and down onto the water.

We finally got a shipment of Korkers Redside Boots. They have been a long time in coming. We still don't have a large quantity so if you have been thinking about them give us a call to see if we have the right size in stock. The Korkers are a neat concept allowing you to switch the soles from felt to sticky Kling-On Rubber to cleated felt or rubber.

No word from the Begleys yet. Hopefully that means they are enjoying a quiet vacation with some excellent fishing.

Have a great day and good luck fishing out there. Thanks for being here with us.
