Townsend, Tennessee - Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Welcome to the Fishing Report. The fog is burning off to reveal another hot day. They are calling for a chance of rain today but we'll have to wait and see. It briefly rained here in Townsend yesterday but not enough to cool it off or do much for the streams. Byron and Paula are off today braving the heat trying to catch some fish.
What can I say about fishing. It is the late Summer. Water levels are low and temps are warm. This doesn't mean that there is no where to fish. High elevation streams continue to receive more rain than the lower elevations and water temperatures are much cooler.
Anglers have been catching trout around and upstream of Elkmont. Most of the better success has been coming from the Little Pigeon watershed. West Prong of the Little Pigeon along Newfound Gap Road has been receiving some rain and water temps are only in the low 60's. Are temps will be cooler there also making for a more pleasant fishing experience.
Yellow is still the color of choice for Smokies dry fly patterns. If you are fishing very high like Road Prong have some chartreuse dries also. The little stoneflies up there will be more green than yellow.
If you go fishing today or this weekend remember to stay hydrated and take it easy.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
