Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

Welcome to the Fishing Report from the Great Smoky Mountains.  At 5:17 am, light rain is falling and the temperature is 64.6 degrees.  There is a 100% chance for rain today. All the weather websites agree.  I agree. I can hear the rain falling.  We may get up to 1” today.  A cold front has dropped our expected temperatures below what we have seen all week.  Expect a high of 66 degrees today with a low of 44.

Little River if flowing at 151 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.65 feet on the flow gauge.  Median flow for this date is 127 cfs. The water temperature is 61.9 degrees.

Fishing has been very good in the Smoky Mountains for several days. Right now, the conditions look good.  The water temperature is 61.9 degrees and there is no doubt, it is going to be overcast today.  Sometimes when fronts move in, like this one, it can have a negative affect on the fishing.  That may or may not happen.

I would plan on using nymphs today.

This will be a short fishing report.  I’ll be at the Tremont Lodge Conference Center early, to let people in to set up to tie at Fly Tyers Weekend.  I’m the only person with the combination to open the center.

We worked all day yesterday, finishing details, setting up the event center for the free fly tying demonstrations and the main lodge building for the showing of the IF4 Film Festival tonight.

If you are attending the fly tying demonstrations, which are free, there will be signs directing you to Townsend Elementary School to park.  That is located near the event center.

If you are attending the Film Festival tonight at 6 PM, that will be held at the main lodge building.  You can buy tickets, at the door.  Beer and BBQ will be served for additional charge. Actually, the beer is free.

Fly tyers are here for you to enjoy all day today and tomorrow and there is no charge for admission.

We are all planning to have a great time, meet some fly fishing folks like ourselves and learn more about our sport. Please plan to attend. We want this to be a successful Fly Tyers Weekend, and if it is, we’ll probably hold it next year.  Success will be measured by attendance.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
