Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

Welcome to the Fishing Report from the Great Smoky Mountains.  The sun has come out from behind this mornings heavy fog to reveal a beautiful, cold morning. Driving in the morning the mist was hanging low over the Little River with the sun shining through it. It created a magical scene above the muddy torrent of the Little River.

Water levels are dropping. This morning the flow is down to 3.73 feet on the gauge or 1,150 c.f.s. The normal flow is 240 c.f.s. Thankfully there is no rain in the forecast till Saturday. Cold overnight temperatures have caused the water temps to drop. It was down to 44F this morning. There is no point to being out on the water too early. Give everything a chance to warm up some.

Fishing will be very difficult at best. If you must go, nymphs with a lot of weight will be the choice. You are going to have to cast and then start throwing some mends to give the fly a chance to get down. Big Prince Nymphs, Tellico Nymphs and the Hellbender Stonefly can be good choices.

There is a Beginner Fly Tying Class coming up this Saturday. There is still plenty of space available. If you have been thinking about getting started this is the perfect way.  Click on the ad below for more details.

Like Byron said yesterday, we are still working on the Fly Tying Department. I've been cleaning up the entries in the computer system and updating the order forms. There is a LOT of items. The hardest part right now for me is cleaning up the data base. We got the computer system in 1997 so there is entries going all the way back till then. Old Items, discontinued items, duplicate items. Blah. It is coming along alright. It is something to keep me busy this winter.

We got some great fly tyers coming this Saturday. Dean Campbell and Phil Brandt are giving a FREE fly tying demonstration between 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday.  These guys are friends who fish for stripers locally and redfish on the coast.  It will be a great show.  While you are here, register to win a free $100 LRO gift card.

Gift Cards are a great idea to tell your family that you would like for Christmas. They don't have to stress about what you have or don't have. They don't even have to drive to Townsend. We can mail the gift card to them....or for the procrastinators we can even email the gift card.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
