Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 7:30 this morning thick clouds hang over the area. Atleast it isn't raining this morning.

Water levels in the Smokies are getting better. The streamflow gauge on the Little River is 2.91 feet or 738 c.f.s. The daily average is 297 c.f.s. Water temperatures are cooling a little to 55F but that is still great for this time of year. River levels are still high so you will have to be very careful if you go. Smaller streams or higher elevations can be a possibility.

Nymph patterns are going to be your best choice for flies especially with the high water. Pat's Rubberlegs, Prince Nymphs, Copper Johns are all good patterns. Split shot will help get the flies down to the trout.

Today is the last day of the year. I can't believe 2015 is almost over. This has been a great year at the Shop. Byron has given us the reins to make most all of the decisions which for me has been good...and stressful. I liken it to when your dad tosses you the keys for the first time and tells you it's time to drive. We have been trying to make improvements. I'm always open to suggestions on things to stock and anything that can make the Shop better.

One of our best additions in the last year or so was bringing Dan Munger on. He has been a huge help with all parts of the Shop.

A huge change we have coming for 2016 is going to be a re-build of the Online Catalog. The new software should be more user friendly and optimized to use on your phone or tablet. We are going to have many more items listed. There still won't be the fly tying materials yet. Maybe that will be our 2017 goal. Like now though you can just give a call on the phone and we'll mail out the tying materials.

Our FREE Fly Tying Demos start up this Saturday January 2nd. Josh Pfeiffer and Clayton Gist will be here from 10 am till 2 pm. These events are always a fun time. Just stop by if you have the chance.

We will be here today regular hours till 5pm. Tomorrow the 1st we will be closed for New Years. Saturday we'll be back at it at 9am ready to go for another year.

Have a great day and thank you for supporting us in 2015.
