My wife and I will be going to a wedding in PA, and will be staying in Morganton WV the last weekend of May. We are going to be heading up mid week and taking a a few extra days as a short vacation. Are there any good places we could sneak in some fly-fishing? I remember going to Ohiopyle and rafting just after I graduated from OU, however trout fishing wasn't on my mind back then. Any help would be appreciated.

Buzz, you have a few options. First, from Morgantown, you can enjoy some of WVA's waters. The http://www.elkspringsflyshop.com/elk_river.htm Elk River may not be far away.

In PA, the Youghiogheny is an excellent choice. Also in Ohiopyle, you can fish about 4 miles of Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only water at Meadow Run. You also have some wild brook trout streams in that area. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/water/county/pfbcmaps/faye.htm or http://www.fish.state.pa.us/water/county/pfbcmaps/some.htm

Another option is Western Maryland. The http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/western/savageriver.asp Savage River tailwaters and the http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries/recreational/fwhotnbrpotomac.html North Branch of the Potomac tailwaters are both good fisheries. The Savage has a nice brown/brook wild population and nice hatches that time of year.

Once you decide, feel free to e-mail me for additional details. I can fix you up with exact access spots for the Savage, Yough, Meadow and a wild stream or two in PA. I have never fished WVA's Elk though it is considered a very good stream.

Thanks,

I'll have to look into a few of these places. I'll be sure to get in touch when I narrow it down a little.

Buzz, I didn't realize that Private Messaging has been disabled here. If you want additional details, send me an email at jmanderino -AT- comcast.net. While I usually check in here daily I don't always visit this out-of-state forum, so it would not be unusual for me to miss a post from you for several days or even entirely.
