First fish!

I took my son to a buddies house today to do a little fishing with him. Since he is only 2 1/2 the worm and bobber allowed him to catch his first fish (bluegill). We caught about a dozen or so and then he started to play with the dog.

While he was doing that I tied on a olive Strymph that I am tying for the smallmouth fly swap. Landed a huge bluegill. I was amazed that it was able to eat that fly. the hook is a size 6 2X heavy and 3X long. The hook seemed to be more wedged in his mouth than actually hooked through the mouth.
Oh well, I really like the way this fly moves and looks in the water.

Byron- Yes it was that fly I showed you. I was suprised at how much material is needed to tie that fly. It is weird to use excessive amounts of dubbing so that later you can shape it down.
We had a fun day and many good memories were made.
