View Full Version : Clinch Yesterday
Fished the Clinch yesterday; Millers in the morning til noon, jail in the afternoon.
Millers was slow we caught about 10 fish total; biggest was 14".
We arrive at the jail just in time for the sulphurs to pick up and it was amazing. We caught several fish in the 15" to 18" range and broke off a couple of larger ones. I will post some pictures this weekend.

I'm new to flyfishing (one trip) on the Clinch. Only been in the weir pool. Didn't catch a thing with a black midge. What were you using?
At Millers we were using BHPT #18 and Zebra's (Blk/sliver) #18 & #20. We switched over to Dries at the jail; # 12 and #14 Sulphurs.
I fish the Clinch or Holston every Wednesday if you want to hook up and see some different sections let me know. 202-7007.

I was below the weir on Wednesday, using a #20 black zebra midge, and got into a mess of brookies. That was unexpected and nice. The largest one was a fiesty 13 inches. Good to see they're doing well!

Lar, would love to do so. Can't for a couple weeks, looks like. However, I should also mention that while I attempted fly fishing 20-something years ago, I didn't know what I was doing. This time I want to do it right. I've taken some casting lessons. The trip to the Clinch was my first attempt in the river since. So, if you don't mind an old "rookie"...
Some days I still feel like a rookie. Give me a call when you are ready to hit the river.

I floated the clinch today around peach orchard. Caught lots of rainbows on an olive woolybooger and some nice brooks 8-12 in. then switched to nymphs bhpt, zebra midges, cooper johns, and hairs ear. the bhpt was the trick. between two people fighting the wind all day we got 30-35 rainbows and 12 brooks. had a blast.

Also fished the clinch today right below the weir, caught a bunch of good sized brookies and a couple of small rainbows. I have never caught that many brookies or for that matter any up at that clinch. Did they just recently stock them or have I just been missing out on the brookies all this time?

oody, did you float the whole river or did you just stay around PO?
ajh, TWRA began stocking brook trout in the clinch last year, but as much as I've fished the Clinch, I haven't caught very many

The water was very low from what i understand, so we hit the high notes up to coal creek and drifted back to the put in at PO.
