Good to see some variety in the submittals, plus I don't see many pics of long ear sunfish. I am pretty sure I have never caught one of those around here. Cool colors going on there.

Thanks Travis. They are neat little fish. They look like a tropical fish with their bright colors. Doesn't look like something you would find in N AL!

I missed April because I kept forgetting to take my camera.

The way this month is going, this may be my best fish of the month so her's May.

Caught on a "jeff invention" streamer - #8 hook, white maribou tail, silver tinsel wrapped up the hook shank, red metalic thread head. It's my "5 minute fly" because I can tie a few of them in about 5 minutes time.

Pangler, Great pic from the Caney. How's the river fishing? Monk

05-24-2008, 10:08 AM
Guys, my friend Mike and I were doing some farm pond management this morning. Look at the fish my friend Mike caught. Weighs 2.25 lbs. Clearly the largest bream that has ever been caught here on my farm. Only about 1 lb shy of the state record of 3 lbs 4 oz.

Monktrout, the Caney is in great shape with a good spread in the size of fish. Plenty of hungry fish to fool...if you're thinking of a trip, I'd do it sooner as opposed to later because I fear it is going to get hammered over the next few weeks and all those nice fish will end up heading home with people...

05-24-2008, 01:35 PM
Dude, Hutch if that thing is 2.25lb's then I'd hate to see what the 3.5lb boy looked like! That is the biggest gill I've ever laid eyes on! That's a trophy for sure!

Awesome just plain awesome!

OK, This is going to be ugly. If you saw my post on Sam's Creek under Smokies Fishing, you'll know that I took a dip in LR last week (not voluntarily) and soaked my bottom-of-the-line digital camera. I thought it had recovered but apparently the shutter is bogged down and doesn't close quickly enough. But since it's nearing the end of the month and I don't have time to run out and buy a new camera and be guaranteed of another fishing day, I'm going to post this pitiful little picture of a Sam's Creek brookie. Trust me, it was pretty.
Can you see it in there? Oh well, I've got my May post (assuming Fishermansfly gives me credit).

05-24-2008, 10:26 PM
I don't know Brett- It looks like a swim bait to me...

05-25-2008, 02:47 AM
NVR, I know you're a fly fisherman thru and thru ,but what'd you catch em on? Also, I had the same issue with my camera just two month's ago! Dropped it in the water, sent it off, and apparently all they had to do was re-align something inside...Now it takes some of the best macro shots I've ever seen it take! 20/20 the auto shot's are now a little shotty though! Might be worth sending it off!

Your pics in, just make sure to post the type of tackle used so I can seperate the spinners from the flyers. Or post a pic of the accompaning bait in the fishes mouth or lying on its body or generally in the picture, that way I can seperate them visually.

The picture is funny though because I'm a "picture looker" by nature. I always look for pictures before reading text. Any who, I could clearly make out that it was indeed a brookie before ever reading the accomp. post!

I wanna make it up there pretty bad guys but I'm afraid of the newly opened stream pressure! NVR we gotta hit up a stream soon buddy! I've also got a funny story for that stream. Dad and I fished that stream nearly 2 years ago when it was actually off limit's to fisherman...We didn't know that at the time, but I guess we really didn't do much harm because we didn't really catch a whole lot! Absolutely scerene though! It's a fantastic quick little hike and beautiful scenery!

Someone else left their fly out this month too...I didn't have time to post when I saw it, so thanks for the reminder! Don't forget that you don't have to be specific on what fly it is that your using just what type ie, dry, wet, nymph, emerger, rooster tail, popper, crank bait, etc... I know there are some folks out there who don't like to give up all there secrets!

Hutch I'm still in amazement of that freak of nature you caught!

Tight lines guys!

05-25-2008, 08:32 AM

I caught the Sam's Creek brookie on a #14 Elk Hair Caddis with an olive body. I'll try to do better next month.

05-26-2008, 12:14 PM

two 12" wild stream browns and a foot long wild rainbow from same day

05-28-2008, 12:13 AM
Alright I'm back in the saddle this month...not that I ever got off but I'm least I'm putting up a picture this time!

Caught today, well yesterday now, 05-27-08. Caught this little bugger on a midge (on the fly!) and on the beloved Clinch river!

I will probably never in my life time figure that river out! Oh well! Saw several sulphurs hatching in the shade, also watched several rises to the sulphur's...Caught 5 in about 5 hours! 1 an hour stinks!!! Caught one nice fish and the rest were mere dinks! Plenty of guys on the water around 3pm guess everyone decided to take off work a couple hours early! Counted 13 guys wading in 2 in a boat all right by the jail! We left early and didn't stick around for the fall! Oh well, were headed to the Caney tomorrow for a drift..Hope it goes well and will report tomorrow!

I was trying to get a shot of Mauer's sick casting skills and it didn't quite work out...still a good picture.

I know I almost missed it but this bluegill is one of about 100 it seems that I caught on the Hiwassee this past month. All of these fish were caught in about 1-2 feet of water at the mouth of Sugar Creek near the Johnson's Bottom WMA if anyone if familiar with that part of the Hiwasee. It was some good fun on my little 3wt and the girlfriend didnt mind going either.

Troutman....Just in case no one else noticed Troutman changed his small fish to another small fish....Gary you don't have to tell us we are already aware you don't catch much but what you do catch is always small! Gary, I've seen you lurking the photoshop forums! Don't get any crazy ideas! I'll be waiting to see what follows!

I'll post the results tomorrow guys...it's late and I'm tired! Tomorrow I promise! Oh and before I forget...I could really use some help on Microsoft spread sheet! It's been forever since I've used it and for some reason I'm having trouble accessing the good version on my computer. I'm wanting to basically simplify this result's posting by putting it in a calander type form and putting hash marks for the months that person caught a fish! Anyone out there who is good w/Spread Sheets, shoot me an email and I'll try and vent my idea to you! Thanks in advance!

06-01-2008, 03:19 PM

I, for one, want to thank you for getting this started. It's been a lot of fun just three months into the deal. I was just looking and you've had 120 posts in the three month and that's 120 posts with no debates - just good fun. And don't give Gary a hard time - he's doing the best he can. We all know size doesn't matter.

Thanks again, Brett. Great idea.

06-01-2008, 04:24 PM
Thanks for the encouragement fellas. I'll try to do better this month. Maybe we should start a "Dink Fish of the Month" thread, I'll have plenty of pictures to choose from for it!

Now, that would be a contest I could win!

I'm gonna need some suggestions on a few things tonight...I say we include every one in this one sheet, spin and fly fishers alike?! What do you all think? Everything stays the same I just lump everyone together! If everyone is alright with it I'll leave it be...if not to be afraid to voice your opinion on it,,,my crossed eyes will only hate you for a little while! I'm only joking, but man did that take a little work to get everyone on the spreadsheet! I can't quite remember how to re-arrange the cells to put em in alphabetical order! If you cut and paste it deletes stuff, what gives...It's late, I'm tired, and I'll rehash this tomorrow! For now there are the results with everyone lumped in together! It's all about us looking at those pretty fish anywho!

Awesome participation guys!

06-02-2008, 12:42 PM
Shoot it to me in an email and I will see if I can help.

06-02-2008, 01:08 PM
Bob- I received the flies the other day, sorry for not posting sooner.
I really like the one with the flash wrapped in it. I will be trying it out on the Clinch tomorrow morning and I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again,

I couldnt sleep when I got off work tonight and played around with this in Excel. I have it organized into some other topics but it is really hard to display them. I can email you the file and I dont mind helping you with it because I like using Excel

Awesome chart! Don't forget my April fish!

06-03-2008, 11:49 PM
Alright this is one of the final drafts to this whole excel, make life easier, spreadsheets! I'm not real sure on the make life easier deal, seeing as I was at the helm of my laptop for 6 very long hours last night trying to put this whole thing together. I hope it looks good! I took the privelidge of adapting the warm water/cold water idea from mmorgan and applied it to this one. I altered it just slightly so that it would make a little more sense...Though I don't think I've got it 100% right! As far as the X's are concerned I hope I have that right! If I don't please let me know and I'll try and fix it...Bare with me guys once it's right it should be a breeze next month and make this whole thing a little more relaxed.

I thought the warm/cold water thing was a good idea because it will give new member's an idea of who they need to talk with about catching a certain species. However, there is a kink with that...If you post more than one picture as Mjenki14 did, then the question remains "Which picture do I apply towards the results listing?" Small kink, but a kink non the less!

Thanks ALflygirl for getting me started/motivated, and mmorgan for the great idea.

Also, now would be a good time to give your opinion on the worksheet if you don't like something on it...That way I don't go having to change it next month, all I will have to do is add to it!

06-04-2008, 06:40 PM
Hey Brett
I think it looks great. You took that sad little Excel spreadsheet I sent you and made it look like something!! Great job!!
