View Full Version : Sm Mouth and Redeye in GSMNP

I don't believe I have seen any discussions on small mouth and redeye in the park so I figured I would ask.
If I wanted to try a little fly fishing for these guys in the GSMNP where would be a good place to start. I'm starting to wonder what other fish feel like on a fly rod and figured why not try where there is one heck of a view.
I'm already an fly fishing addict so why not make it worse.

Im from Seymour and consider Townsend and gsmnp my home waters. The farthest ive caught a SM was in front of Tremont Hills CG. But that was in the late summer and water temp was really high. But who know may be up farther.

I've caught them inside the park on the LR as high up as Indian head. I have heard they have show up occasionally as far up as the sinks. Got to fish something bigger than a Para adams or PT to get their attention though.
You will have more luck finding them in Abrams and lower Hazel Creek

Abrams Creek, down by the campgrounds.

Like Buzz said, Abrams would be a good bet. From Kingfisher Creek down to the lake would be a good bet. They probably even make it up into Little Bottoms during the hottest parts of the year.
Lower Forney Creek down by Fontana and Lower Deep Creek might be good as well.

I have caught them in Abrams after having walked into Little bottoms in the summer. Stripping woolly buggers.
What do you all know about the water between the roads on the way from Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg? Have always wondered about that.
On the other side but rarely fished, I hear that the Cheoah river is lousy with them and seldom fished. I plan to find out for myself this summer!

John, What few times I've driven to Robbinsville, I've driven past there thinking "man, that looks like great fishing", but I've never seen anyone fishing there.

The water between PF and GB is called the spur and there are stockers and smallmouth in there

the water between pigeon and g'burg is post as "polluted"...it is from the water treatment plant, plus run off of chemicals from developers...i don't know if you can get sick wading in e-coli, but i'm not gonna try it
