Hey all I thought I would post this just for the simple fact it is a massive trout. Sad to say it wasnt caught on a fly rod, but it is impressive at that.
I wish I could claim it but a buddy of mine got it on a crankbait while they where running water.

Were you smallmouth fishing with crankbaits or trying to catch monster trout?

WOW.

I'm curious if that monster had been caught on a fly rod what size rod would of had to be used. I have a 5wt so would it have snapped under his pressure?

VERY nice fish. Where exactly is the Holston? I fish the Caney at least once a week, so where is it from the Caney?

The south holston is near bristol tn/va. It would be quite a haul from the caney. And no he was fishing for trout with a lucky craft plug. In the past few weeks he's caught a 8 pound rainbow from the soho, and a 9 pound brown from Watauga, and now this one. And as far as the boat he has a polar craft flat bottom with a 65 evirude jet prop. He puts in just below the wiers and floats almost to Bluff City then jets back up. Im gonna get a bigger weight rod and go with him soon.

Ditto, but I am in the process of teaching myself. I've got all the gear I need, but all I need to do now is perfect my cast, get better flies, and then I can start slaying them.
