View Full Version : Tellico Trip/ Brown Pics

Well I have made another trip to the tellico area and thought I'd share the story. My dad, wife, and I went up Sunday morning and came back Wednesday. We all had a blast and caught countless numbers of fish. Sunday morning the fishing was the best of the entire trip. For some reason the browns were out and feeding I had caught around 8 browns the two nicest being around 13" and was beginning to think that maybe we had a chance to get a real trophy. I quickly told myself to quit being a dreamer and kept fishing. Well about an hour later I was fishing just below the Dam Creek campground area when it happened. The hole was no bigger than a car hood but when I threw a #12 beadhead prince up to the top my line strightened. I set the hook and saw a massive fish turn at the top of the pool. Needless to say the fight was on. It stayed in the hole for two or three minutes, which felt like an eternity, running up and down. Then it took off down stream. My reel was zinging and I was giving chase. We wrestled with each other through three or four more holes of water. The entire fight was around 15 minutes. I finally had tired the massive fish and he surrendered at my feet. A 19" Brown Trout. Not the biggest of my life but definetly one for the memory bank.

I would never believe that those big browns were in that river if I had not seen those pics. NICE FISH! I will now be at that river everyday until I get one!

I've been fishing that area since I was a kid and I've caught three very nice browns out of there. A 21", a 18", and now this one. Their in there!

Was this guy a wild brown?
I've only fished Tellico once so I'm not sure what they stock and what is wild.
Either way nice fish

Any brown caught in the Tellico area (North & Bald also) will be wild. If I am correct (somebody feel free to correct me:rolleyes: ) there have been no brown trout stocking there in over 60 years. I caught my first this spring, a 7 incher that I consider to be one of my finest fish!

Beautiful fish!! I need to find one over that way. I've only fly fished there once - got several nice little bows. (only been fly fishing 3 times.)
Wife and I going to give it a shot in 3 weeks - will be staying in one of those rooms shown behind you in that first pic.

I returned to Tellico yesterday in search of my own trophy. I did not get any browns:frown: . I did catch about 7 rainbows. 5 of them were beautiful wild bows. I seem to be catching more wild fish up there lately. It is a good sign for the wild fish and also that my skill level is improving a bit!
On a sad note: The littering of the tourists and bait fisherman was very bad everywhere I fished. I picked up as much as I could. It amazes me that people could shamelessly pollute such a beautiful place!
