I have been very fortunate lately and have been able to fish the Smoky’s 6 times in the last four weeks. Most of the time I head out after work and fish until dark and lately the fishing for me has been good. Last night the fishing was a little tougher, I will blame it on the full moon and not my fishing skills. After fishing the parking lot area at the end of the road I headed up Thunderhead. I had made my way to the first big plunge pool on the creek and hooked a fish that popped off.. I started to cast again when a bear came out of the woods on my right and walked across the top of the plunge pool. It was very weird, as he did not seem to see me until he was standing right upstream from me. We stared at each other for a second and he stood up. This is when I started hollering at him. He seamed to get the message and took off up the left bank. I headed back down to the creek all the while checking over my shoulder that he was not following me.
I saw this same bear about three weeks ago about fifty yards down stream of the confluence of Lynn Camp and Thunderhead. See the post by MTNman2888 on 6/26/08. He got a picture of the bear on the other side of the parking lot just before I ran into him.
This is not a mature bear, but looks to be a year or two old I guess. Keep your eyes open if you head up there.
