This past Sunday I fished the Caney Fork with LRO's own Joe Mcgroom and my cousin Nathan. Joe had not fished the Caney yet but my cousin had fished it with me a couple of times before. Thankfully the clouds defied the "mostly sunny" forecast and provided a nice overcast day for better fishing. We had our best luck fairly early in the day and all got in on some good action. Best fly was definitely the zebra midge...

Joe is ruined now...probably because of this nice fish...

Despite the fact that it was only his 5th time or so fly fishing, my cousin did very well catching numerous fish including this nice one...

Not to be outfished, I managed a good one as well...

Overall it was a great day of fishing. Everyone got the slam which included some nicely colored (and really fat) brookies. In another year or two we should be seeing some 18 inch brookies in the Caney hopefully...

Dang Guys,

Nice Fish! Or should I say nice Fishes! I fished there a lot in the 70's and 80's, almost every weekend. Never had a day like that. But I must admit, you guys are better at it than I am. That is one fine tailwater. I have floated and fished the whole river below the dam. It just keeps getting better. Great photos of some fine folks and their trout.

David,
Alright now, you are making me regret telling you I can't meet to fish the day after Thanksgiving.....I am going to have to get out that way soon. Maybe next weekend if I can get a pass.

Nice fish all the way around. Congrats.

Holy seacows batman!

Where were you, might I ask? If you were below the dam at the steps, those were the fish that wouldn't give me a flip of the fins  How big did they all go? You need to come bless my new fly rod, so that I might be able to catch fish like that!

Trey, that wasn't where we got the best fish although we saw some very nice fish in that area as well... Shoot me an email and I'll let you know when I'm fishing again. I'll be glad to try and put you on a big fish or two. By the way, its not the rod, its the hat...that LRO brookie hat has been some kind of good luck...;)

Travis, I'll be wanting to fish the Caney again soon, maybe even this weekend. Shoot me an email if you decide to head that way...

Haha $100 for the hat right now  Naw, but I'm just shocked that you catch as many quality fish that you do. I'm slammed at work, so I won't be able to make it out until probably Thanksgiving. I just wish I knew how and where to be so I don't hinder you.

Those are some nice browns. I have not yet made a trip to the Caney. If for some reason my hunting season doesn't go well, I may try and make a winter trip over there. Then there is always the spring. Congratulations.

Nice fish! There must really be some big ones in there. I'd like to make a trip over there. How long would it take to get there from Pigeon Forge?

Bugg, it will probably take 2-2 1/2 hours or so from Pigeon Forge, maybe a bit more...

Who wants to go Friday? I got two spots in the boat, and it would help if you knew how to row a drifter. I wanna go and don't have anyone to with since all the pals are either working or out of town. I'm still have a cold brewing and I'm not making any promises, because if this gets any worse I'm not going to make it worse! Lemme know!

Brett,
Sure wish I could go with you. Hmmmm, my throat is feeling kinda scratchy too, I think I can feel a cold coming on......

Can't take sick days for that kind of trip anymore.

Oh, Joe's done for, but I think you're ruined yourself!

Looks like the weather worked in your favor.

I'm contemplating going tomorrow.

Hey Trevor, how did you guys do that day? I never got to ask. I picked up some Simms waders, so I'm down for anything now!

Anything like your last trip? I couldn't believe it when David and Gerry told me you caught that many quality fish in one day.

Fished again last weekend and got a couple more good fish... I hooked one absolute monster that took off downriver and after a good fight, straightened the hook on me...I'll be back to find this fish though...

The day I couldn't go? Looks like I'm missing some excellent fishing. Are they hitting more before generation, during, or after? Those are some massive fish, I want to get into a mess of those! Zebra midges still the ticket?

Fishing was good all day but we got the big guys in the afternoon... The fish hit just about anything we threw at them including lots of different midges. Give me a holler when you can fish again and we'll chase some monsters...

What areas were fishing well? Under the dam? The shoals? Lancaster? Happy Hollow? Betty's Island? I want to go so bad, I've stocked up on gear.

Problem is, when I was taking my rod apart last one of the eyelets poppet out of the plastic holder. I guess I can fit it back in there until it HAS to be sent in.

I'm pretty much swamped because of Black Friday coming up, so after that my schedule should lighten up a bit. I'm off Thursday, I'm thinking about skipping and taking a "personal day."
