I guess another trip to the smokies this year ain't gonna happen...

time to trade my felt soles for insulated boot foot camo, make sure my flies are stored safely, and look forward to spring break! By the end of duck season I'll be looking forward to a mountain get away. Sound familiar to anybody else?

Not for me. I plan on doing a backcountry trip the day after Thanksgiving. I'm not sure where I am going yet, but look forward to a couple of days of fishing and backcountry camping. I also hope to have a warm day or two around Christmas to get back to the Smokies.

God Bless,
DWT

I am finally getting to head home "to Mississippi" for Thanksgiving. I'll be duck hunting next Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday! Since it seems like nobody I know at work is a duck hunter, "they just look at me like I'm crazy when I mention it" it looks like I will be fishing until I move back home in mid December. Then around the first January I'll be taking a trip to Maryland to try and get some duck swat'n in before school starts up at Mississippi State.

Unfortunately I live in Nashville, TN...but if I lived close enough to the Smokies, I would surely be trekking out through the snow at least a couple times throughout the winter to fish. Whether you catch anything or not, there's just a certain peace that you get from being out in the woods with nothing but snow, trees and a gently flowing stream at your feet...topped off with some nice little brookies still eager to take a fly...

hmmm...sounds like a dream I wouldn't mind having tonight...

You sound a lot like me. I fish around here in East TN until the beginning of duck season. Then I trade fins for feathers. Not many duck hunters up here in the mountains. Heck, I even went to Mississippi State.

I returned from my annual Ohio trip a couple weeks ago. After showing everyone how not to shoot, I managed to come away with a couple geese and some mallards. The lab is a buddy's, mine stayed home do to lack of room in the Cherokee.

can't wait for the openingof duck season in wst tn. Hopefully be on the water the saturday after thankgiving. Duck hunting here in wst tn on reelfoot lake can be awsome or downright boring. Next to a tug at the end of a fishing line. a group coming in with set wings and their landing gear down is a great sight to behold. hope this year is awsome!!

Do you do any duck hunting here? I practice calling behind the wellness center in Alcoa/Maryville just about 3 times a week after I get off of work. There are about 50 or so mallards that come in to roost there every night. I finally head back to Starkville tomorrow. A hunting buddy of mine is telling me that they have got the ducks right now. I'll be hunting Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings.;) I actually am still a student at Mississippi State I am just co-oping here at Denso. Being away from home and no where to hunt is driving me crazy especially now that I can't go fishing in the afternoons.

There are definitely ducks down here. Lots of woodies, if you're in the right spot. And plenty of geese. I have been putting a healthy dent in their population the last few years.
