No trout over here in CLT, but striped bass, largemouth bass, and bluegill fishing is great in Lake Norman, Wylie, and Mountain Island. South Mountains SP about an 1 and 15 minutes away give or take has excellent trout fishing.....

Where is the best trout fishing between Charlotte and Knoxville? Davidson River?

I could just try to hit a new river on my way home...

By far, the Davidson River in Brevard is the best freestone trout stream in NC. A healthy amount of trout w/ big ones, some MONSTERS, make for an awesome trout river. The "D" is listed as one of Trout Unlimited's top 100 trout streams in North America...

Remember if you fish the davidson, WHICH YOU SHOULD, to take tiny flys (18, 20, 22) and 6x to 7x tippet. It seems like they wont even look at your fly if you have any heavier than 6x. Preferably fluorocarbon. Parking at the hatchery and fish in that stretch. Downstream about 1/2 of a mile of the hatchery is private water.

The reason it is so hard is because they see every fly that has ever been tied. Anywhere you want to go this time of year is no better than anywhere else. From the Park to any of the National Forest streams you can find whatever you are looking for.

You all have any directions or an address for some good wading areas on the "D"?

I will not be going until the 2nd week of Feb.

Any other tips will be appreciated. Which local fly shop to check with and where to pick up a NC license in Brevard.

You need to fish the hatchery section of the "D". It's C&R fly fishing only, although heavily pressured, you should find solitude if it's cold.
