Are you watching how you put them in your vise? When I first started tying again, I had a lot of broken hooks until I watched a videotape on fly tying and the tyer mentioned hook placement in vise. Tried it and have had hardly any broken hooks, even with those no good cheap "brittle" Mustad Classics (:>).

Just bite the bullet and invest in some quality premium hooks...I like Tiemco hooks personally but there are lots of other good ones out there...

I tie mostly on the mustad hooks for smaller stuff, but when I am tying larger stuff I like the Gamukatsu hooks. For saltwater I bite the bullet and use Owner hooks. I have never used the white river hooks but with this heads up I will be alot less likely to buy any.

I have always used white river hooks except for when I need a hook that they don't have. I Have never had a problem with the hook breaking. What kind are breaking? Are they breaking in the vice or while fishing, just curious.

Guys, thanks for the input. They are breaking in the vice. I guess I need to look at hook placement. I haven't had a problem until I started tying dries.
