Thanks for having me on the board, this will be my first post. I've enjoyed reading for the last couple of months before finally joining.

I am looking for a reel in the $115-$130 range for my Sage DS2 590-4 graphite II that will accommodate most fishing in the Smokies.

Any expert opinions/suggestions ?

If this is a duplicate, sorry, my computer wigged out when I tried to submit.

I would suggest you check out the Orvis BBS II reel. It is in your price range. It would be a good reel even at a much higher cost but at its price point, I think it's one of the best values for the buck going.

I have one and it's never given me a moment's trouble.

Welcome SC - It's a good board.

Since LRO handles Orvis reels, I don't think you could go wrong with the Battenkill Mid-Arbor MAIII, for 5/6wt. at $140 - it has a great drag. Also excellent are the Orvis Battenkill Bar Stock BBSII for 3-5wts at $120 or the BBSIII for 5-7wts at $130. I have the BBSII on my 5wt and the MAIV on my 8wt for Steelies. Both are very good reels.

I agree for a third opinion. I have two of the orvis mid arbor battenkills and they are great. The Orvis BBS are super sweet also. The older battenkills were good reels also but they was not machined. For the price the orvis line has great reels for excellent prices.

Yes on the Orvis Mid arbor also. My son has the Mid Arbor III on his 9' 5wt and it's a very nice reel. Just a little more pricy than the BBS reels. You're not going to go wrong with either.

I also like Ross reels but they are a little outside of the price range you mentioned. For the money, the Orvis reels are just flat hard to beat.

I agree with all the above, in that price range the Orvis BMA is hard to beat, and they take a beating. I have dropped fell on, stepped on etc. on mine and other than cosmetic dings they work fine.

If you ever do want to step out to a little higher price range then I would suggest the ross or bauer reels. Just a little extra. Plus they are made in america.
