Nice fish, TS. What did you catch it on?

troutslayer3393

I caught it on a #14 tellico nymph dropped off of a #16 BHPT.

I had just bought some new fly line and was going to cast it around. I really didn't expect much to happen, but some blue quills started to hatch and overall it was a good day.

It's March in Alabama....time for the yellow bass! Got a little trip in after work today. Caught on a Clouser on Bluewater Creek.

That's one of the most vivid and colorful yellow bass I have ever seen. I have never seen one with stripes as dark as those.

Very cool lookin fish! I wonder if we have those up here in TN? Do you have any idea? Anyways, congrats!

Yes we do...but they're not as colorful. Maybe its because it was caught in a creek instead of a lake or dam

Thanks guys. It was a fun couple of hours. About this time every year, the white and yellow bass start running up the creeks that feed into the Tennessee River. It is a lot of fun after winter and finicky trout!

Figured I'd start now that I learned how to post pictures. SoHo 3/7/09.
Think it was on a pheasant tail or a midge.

Got away from work early yesterday to fish the SoHo. As I approached the river saw 3 rainbows working. Had on my trusty English Pheasant Tail. Of course it was the smallest one that ate, but a solid 12-14" fish to start the day....which turned out to be a pretty good one.

MtMike,
I'm new to flyfishing for trout, so just a quick question, is this a "wild Rainbow" because it looks different than the Rainbows ive caught on the Caney? I belive they are stockers. It also reminds me of a Cut Throat Trout. Thanks for the clairification.

MtnMike
03-20-2009, 07:45 PM
Bigpopper, I know that they stock plenty of rainbows in South Holston. But, I also believe that there are quiet a few wild 'bows in that river as well. Someone may want to correct me on that, but I do know that I see plenty or rainbows in spawning mode in the late winter. Some of the "hold-over" stocked 'bows can turn into pretty nice fish as well.
While South Holston is know for its wild browns I believe it also has plenty of nice 'bows. I have caught some good ones over the years. While I have caught plenty of nice ones when there was no camera I posted a picture here http://littleriveroutfitters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11366
shortly after purchasing a digital waterproof camera, of one of the really nice ones with a camera present. Saw a few nice 'bows on the river today, but didn't get any of the good ones to hand.

I'll add this one because it's my first (I believe) on a wet fly. 03/15 West Prong of Little River; Quill Gordon emerger. A little on the blurry side.

BRF, a Quasimoto is a pheasant tail nymph with a bent shank and some green flashing on it. It also has a copper bead head. Should be able to find in the LRO catalogue.

Rachel,
Thanks. The Holston river bows do appear to be quite healty for early spring. My Brodin Cutthroat net seems to dwarf anything less than 17", and it is hard to tell the size from the photos.

I hope to have a white or yellow bass similar to yours for my April fish.

Well, was hoping for something unique this month but will go ahead and put up this rainbow as fishing time has been a bit hard to come by. If I catch something more interesting I might change... This 'bow took a #18 black RS2.

That 'bow was fun although from heavily stocked water. I really want to get a bass or something though. Its getting to be that time of year. Congrats to Troutman on getting in on the smallie action! I'm going to have to expand my horizons this year and hope to chase some smallmouth more consistently!

Unfortunately, it's a private mystery pond. I wish I could let everyone have a chance to catch a goldfish from this pond. I'm afraid the owners would be upset if 72 people showed up to catch one, though. If I find some in public water, though, I'll spread the word. What a fight!;) Here's a close up of the beauty. Check out the flowing fins. Awesome.

That's actually not that big, my friend's pond is filled with goldfish that make carp look like fry. It's just like a carp, trash fish. I would never want to consume one.

I think I'm gonna stop by Nice Mill Dam tomorrow and try to get my entry for March.

My brother is a game warden out west and they had a wild game feast. He prepared some smoked salmon that was the rave of the event. Everybody wanted the recipe. At the end after everyone had had some, he admitted it was not salmon but carp. Not everybody wanted the recipe after the announcement.

Nice catch on that goldfish. I bet it was a blast.

flyred06

Troutman they have not moved shallow yet. We have been over whelmed with high water and rain so far this year. I caught this one up in about 9' of water but I believe he was just a stragler. If the rain stops and a few warm days hit they will move in pretty soon.

You may notice some familiar names are gone. I implemented the "5 month without a post, your name is removed rule". This is in an effort to keep the list manageable and not multiple pages long.
