I fished tellico lake for bass yesterday, and caught one with a lamprey on it! Now Ive seen lamprey on fish that ive caught up north out of the great lakes, but never in my wildest dreams thought of seeing one here. Now ive recently read something about the lamprey in the Hiwassee, but are they everywhere? Obviously they are in tellico lake, so Im guessing Fort Loudon as well, and does that mean they are in the Holston river, french Broad, and even the little pigeon?? where else are these things showing up??

I think they are becoming more prevalent. Ive seen more this year than ever before. Most of them coming from upper tellico lake. Make you think twice about swimming up there!!!

That is a good thing. The native lampreys are sensitive to water quality.

About 20 years ago I was fishing below Wilson Dam on the Tennessee River near Florence Alabama. We were walking around on the rocks and found literally hundreds of dead and dying lamprey in the pocket of water between the rocks. There were also about 20 fat raccoons feeding on them. It was quite a spectacle.

I caught a smallie on the Nolichucky last year with one attached to it's side. Nasty looking critter!

I know there are some native lampreys in the Tennessee river watershed (reportedly distributed throughout most of it), but are there also invasive ones as well?

Invasive Sea lamprey have played havoc on the Great Lakes salmonids for quite a few decades.
