Quick question: How long does it take for the water (2 generators) to reach Indian Cave from the dam?
Thanks again-

Hi Earl,
Think in terms of 3-1/2 hours, but it could be a longer time than that or a little shorter, depending on how much water they are running thru the turbines. They are really starting to crank up now as the weather warms and it could be that they might turn on 4 generators wide open if they need to generate that much power. Be sure to look at the generation schedule for Cherokee for that particular day and the predicted flow rate just below it. Those numbers will give you a pretty good idea to go by and be safe. For the most part, you'll see that the water will arrive in 3-1/2 hours if the generation is moderate and if it is light it may be 4 hours.

I would not push the water at the Cave any longer then 3 hours, when the beast roars at Cherokee it roars for real.

TVA has had to start generating on Cherokee because the lake has surpassed the curve in terms of flood level guiding. Hugh is incorrect for now about the need for power, if that were the case then Norris and many other dams would be blowing full bore as well. Once they get the lake down a foot or two it will back off, of course that will probably coincide with the July min flow requirements so it may not happen.
