I managed to get in a few hours on the river yesterday. As others have been saying it is definitely fishing differently from in the past. The numbers of browns are up while the number of rainbows is down. Still, good fishing can be had if you put in enough time to find the fish. I expect it will fish much better in another year or two once the current crop of 12-14 inch fish "grow up."

Joining me on the river yesterday was Trey (Worrgamesguy) from this board. Overall the fishing was slower than it has been the past few times. We both managed to fool a few though and I lost a monster after a lengthy battle. More on that over at my blog...

One of the high points of the day was watching Trey spot a nice brown actively feeding, make the perfect cast, and catch the fish. In my opinion, sight fishing is about as much fun as you can have with a fly rod and he definitely did everything right with this fish.

I also was glad to catch a nice brookie that taped out right at 13 inches. It seems that they have recently stocked a bunch of the little brookies (7-8 inches) and it can get annoying getting your fly past those guys to the better fish.

Nice fish. What were you showing them?

I went through several flies yesterday as I've been experimenting a lot more lately. I fished a dry/dropper rig most of the time but tried some scuds with a midge trailer right on the bottom for awhile Most of the successful patterns were the usual midges though...

Good day of fishing, buddy. David helped me out a lot that trip, as Steve said before, I was wading where I should have been fishing. Thanks!

I'm off to Yellowstone so won't be around...give me a holler if you want to fish it in another couple of weeks though...sometime around the end of the month...

I believe I will be floating the Caney on Saturday. My dad gets in on Friday, and I don't think we'll fish that day.
