I came in to some pheasant tail that had been died a dark emerald green the other day, and I have tied a few bhpt's out of it. Has anyone ever tied or fishied these before or am I wasting time with them?

First that is a good looking fly. I tie some for use on the Holston and South Holston and have had success with them. I keep them in my mix of all purpose flies. I do like them not as dark, but if the fish like them who cares what Brian likes.

I see no reason why they should not work. I am a strong believer in good drifts first perfect matches less. I have seen trout caught in those mountains on all kinds of flies at the same time. I have seen one guy use BHPT another use ZEBRA midges and another use copper Johns and catch fish. The key was the subtle presentations and the great drifts. I would not hesitate to use those flies. By the way great job on the tying. Wished mine looked that good.

Thanks for the info and the compliments guys. I wish I could tie any other flies as well as BHPT's. Comes with practice I guess. Now if the water will ever go back down I will see how the fish like it.

Looks like a fish catcher tjw!! In a larger size (#10-12) it could work as a dragonfly nymph...

Thanks Tarheel. That one is in a shorter shank size 10. The water levels have dropped to only 3 feet above normal so maybe next week..........
