help with my new GPS navigation system

hey guys! For Christmas my wife bought me a GPS for my car (Garmin Nuvi 205w) which i love but unfortunately it never displays the names of rivers, creeks, lakes or any bodies of water. I know that you can add maps to the device but has anyone tried this with there car GPS systems?? If so, how did it work out?

joshua, did it come with any computer software?
if so, you will need to load it onto your computer in order to load additional maps.
