View Full Version : New Map: Cataloochee, Big & Cosby Creeks & Tribs

01-13-2010, 09:02 PM
The Pigeon River Drainage system map is now available for viewing. A later version will include topo contours and other features.

2/15 Update: Deleted map image & link previously posted.

The marvelous history that abounds in the Cataloochee Valley (http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/cataloochee.htm) made constructing this map a real pleasure.

JoeFred--Looks good, as usual. I'll try to give it a much closer "look see" if I can ever find a bit of spare time. One question--are the links and information you have all from the Park web site? Jim Casada

Thanks, Jim. I seldom include links to the Park's web site in my posts on this forum, but made an exception in the case of the Cataloochee Valley one in my initial post. (I'm kinda partial to that area.) However, I do on occasion (like just now) link to the Great Smoky Mountains Association (http://www.thegreatsmokymountains.org/) web site, since they do some great work on behalf of the Park and run the visitor center stores. Speaking of which, is your book available there yet?

Joe Fred, Thank you very much for putting maps on here and your website. I became a Google Earth junky years ago and it was a very valuable tool in learning different marshes and creeks when I did all the Redfish Circuits. I wish I still had my pay subscription to look at the mountains but even with it the tree cover is probably too great. The free version is awful once you have used the other. Unfortunately my time off right now does not meet my fishing needs but I have planned many a trip in my head since looking at all of the maps you post.

flatserious, thanks for your kind words. I hope you can get in some trips soon. I have only used the freebie version of Goggle Earth. I may splurge and check out the subscription one of these days.
