Buzz,

Thanks for starting the new month. I have been doing a lot of travelling lately, and haven't gotten around to keeping up with the challenge.

A traditional wet fly of course. Do you want to know what fly to use for a dryer in case one floats by?

Thanks. It looked almost black coming out of the water. Seems to be more common in the higher elevations for some reason.

So, Rachel, how did you get a black and white picture with a colored fish? Amazing picture! Keep it up.

It's an editing option in Photobucket. You take the color out of the whole photo and then highlight the areas that you want in color. It's called color splash. Here's the original

Do you have other pictures of this fish? Particularly showing it's tail? I have fished the obed river and caught smallies there myself but that fish really resembles a redeye with the blue cheeks and the distinct mark behind the eye. I wasn't aware that they were that far North though. The fins including their tail (most notable) will have white tips. I'm just curious. Here is a pic of a redeye:

http://www.tnfish.org/FishIdentificationID_TWRA/FullWebImages/CoosaBassRedeyeBassOtterCreekNegus.jpg

Edit: After some research,it appears that the redeye bass was introduced into several drainages in TN, including the Obed, during the 50's and they have since hybridized with the smallmouth bass. Electro shocking has turned up pure strain Smallmouth and Redeye as well as the hybrid.

I know there are redeye in that drainage because I have caught them on Daddy's Creek before. This fish may have been a hybrid because its body had the shape of a smallmouth...not quite as chunky as the redeye I've caught before. Although, the one in the picture you posted wasn't nearly as stubby as the ones I've caught so maybe it was a pure redeye...?

My first catfish on the fly rod. I have been fishing that pond by my parents for 20 years and I have never caught any catfish. One big nasty streamer and a strong 8 weight and I got one. It only took me 30 minutes to get it in, and it weighed just over 12 pounds. Sorry for the poor picture, my brother-in-law took it. The good news was we were out there so I could show him some things about fly fishing, and he caught his first 2 fish on his 1st fly fishing outing, both large mouth. He's now hooked.

Sorry for the delayed response, but here are the May results. A little down from April, let's see if we can pick it up some in June.

Tippet, JohnH, & Green Weenie,
Sorry guys, but you just missed the submittal deadline.
