LPR Smallies,,,pics...

Got in a bit of fishing today in a hardly fished spot.....Caught all on streamers and sculpins.....After the second smallie I have come to the conclusion I need a bigger rod with a fighting butt on it....The last one of good size got into the current and it bent my 5wt pretty good....Man its awsome catchin good size smallies on a 5wt though! I wanted to try some new streamers I got but when I opened my box I realized I had left them at home...Dufus!! Ended up with a good mix of smallies and red eye...missed some good ones along the way too....Good day.

looks like a lamprey had ahold of it recently. I caught a smallie last year with one still stuck to it. that or a gar took a swipe.

Maybe spawning combat/courtship? I've caught several smallmouth with lampreys, but they were all in February, March, or April. I've watched rock bass nipping each other on the spawning beds.

Nice fish, by the way. How big was that rock bass? I grew up fishing for them in the creeks in middle Tennessee, and a 12" was a trophy.

I didn't realize that river had a "hardly fished" spot in it!

Well the only reason I say hardly fished is because I didnt see any footprints anywhere...And this spot was kinda hidden off the beaten path...But it is in a very popular area...Never seen anyone fishing it,,I kinda stumbled up on it or I wouldnt have noticed it...
The red eye was id say 7-9 in....They are a blast to catch and ive heard great to eat...
I love this time of year on the LPR...These where only the second time id caught smallies on my fly rod,,Im hooked.....
