A sad event in Boone, NC last saturday.
A freshly sealed parking lot got a heavy downpour of rain, which washed the sealant into a storm drain and subsequently into Hodges creek, a tributary of the New River.

Grannyknot--If there is a glimmer of brightness in this whole mess, it is that Donna Lisenby is a tenacious terrier of a riverkeeper (she used to have the same position on the Catawba River where I live). BB&T will get a full ration from her--as they should.

Thanks for the information. It is always heartbreaking when we have a fishkill.

I suppose considering they counted less than 100 fish killed, it is not a catastrophe, it is nonetheless very troubling. I hope the trout upstream can repopulate the section soon and that the negligent parties fully pay for the destruction.

One another note, it always amazes me at how many trout can live in a small stream and in unusual places. I had never heard of Hodges Creek and I have fished in Watuaga county a fair amount.

I was amazed that brown trout could be found in Hodges Creek. Its a tiny little creek that runs alongside 105 in Boone, eventually runs into Winkler Creek, which flows into the South Fork of the New River. Winkler creek is a decent sized stream that flows out of the National Forest and into town.

Yeah I watched that youtube video and I was amazed too. All those brown trout and looked like many were large keeper sized too. All of them living in that tiny little stream that looked almost drainage ditch sized. Pretty amazing and makes me wonder about some of these streams where people claim the browns are gone or the stream is dead etc.
