View Full Version : December Smoky fishing

Will be in GSMNP for Christmas. Lots of family coming...I will need to get out and go fishing. This will be my first attempt in GSMNP. Earlier this year in Feb. I was able to sit a while and watch some pretty productive fishing being done in the Ocnaluftee (sp?). It was pretty cold...snowing, overcast. I will be staying close to Greenbrier Creek/Little Pigeon (Middle Prong).

Does anyone have any advice on how these two fish during December? Should I try somewhere else? Again, LOTS of family in...farm pond isn't looking bad!

Scott--If it isn't so cold water freezes in your guides, you can fish. Slow, slower, and slowest is the way to go, making sure you get nymphs (my recommendation) down and bouncing off the bottom.
One plus is you won't have much company.

You should probably fish the slower runs in the heat of the day.

I really enjoy fishing the colder months. The park is beautiful that time of year. The lack of crowds is very nice and I like throwing those nymphs.
