Heading to Smokemont Sunday, Any Advice?

Heading to Smokemont tomorrow, going to stay a few days. I'm still kind of new to this car camping thing, backpacking is my preferred mode of operation. I want to explore a larger area so I don't want to be limited to a foot travel radius.

It's my first time in the area and I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

I plan to fish Road Prong, Walkers Camp Prong, the main WPLP, Bradley Fork, Oconaluftee, and maybe a few other streams in the area.

I will likely fish the smaller headwater sections, I like small streams. Anything more than 20-25 feet wide scares me. :biggrin:

I love small water, high gradient streams. Boulder hopping is my middle name. ;)

I do not know what the flow or temperatures are but Bradley Fork should offer some opportunities along with the Lufftee where Bradley enters it. Also fish up from there. There is decent water all the way up to and past Collins Creek. Another spot you may try is the Lufftee at and upstream from where the old farm is just above the park entrance out of the reservation town. The Lufftee has some slick rocks.

I like the Bradley up around Cabin Flats, below and above the wooden bridge. There are browns and bows up there, brookies above Cabin Flats from what I understand. I would consider Straight Fork as well, one of the best streams in the Park for a Grand Slam.
