So, my fellow teacher friends of mine always take a backpacking trip for fall break. We've been to numerous places in the park but they wanted to do the Elkmont area this year. This is also the first backpacking trip I've taken since I've picked up my new hobby/addiction of fly fishing. Spent Sunday night @ #30 then moved to #23 for Monday night. It was a great time of year to be out there.
I loved fishing around #30. I caught several keepers just around the campsite. Its really nice area and the leave were almost at peak around there. At #23, I didn't catch a single rainbow but I did manage to get 2 keeper size specs along with a bunch of smaller ones.
Everyday out there looked like this.

This was only my second time fishing in the park. I don't know if it was beginners luck or if it is always this good but I stopped counting at 10 fish. I only used two flies...an orange stimulator and a greenie weenie. It was kinda funny because my first cast in my first attempt to use a sub-surface lure (GW) I caught one.
I had so much fun pulling in these fish. I now know that the bigger the fish, the bigger the thrill but I'm gonna be pretty content with the journey to the spot and having fun while catching the little ones.
