Travlin' to Gatlinburg for T'giving...

Hey folks,

The wife, son and i are headin to Gatlinburg for T'giving. The wife and i are headin' up November 17 and Chase will come over from school on November 19. We'll be there through Thankgiving and leave November 27. Any advice from you folks who frequent the Smokies to fish??? Gonna visit Little River Outfitters while there. thinking about hiring a guide for 1/2 day, i understand this is typically a slow time due to water temps getting so low.

Been tying the **** out of black/brown stone flies, hares ear nymphs and BHPT and PT nymphs...any others i should concentrate on?

Appreciate any advice...

I'd tie some BH Prince nymphs, some zebra midges, midge emergers,, and Griffiths Gnats. Usually this time of the year with dropping water temps, midges, Gnats, & Princes seem to work for me. Sizes 16, 18, & 20 seem to work as the bugs are smaller. Some tyiers go even smaller than that.

Of course, theres always the olive wooley buggers.

thanks for the advice...I was wondering why most of the information I looked at didn't mention midges as a winter diet for the GSMNP trout. I will get on those tonight. I normally carry an arsenal of wooly buggers..usually in the 6 to 8 range...sounds like i need to go smaller?

Unless you fish some on down Little River below Elkmont, maybe down toward Metcalf bottoms and such. Then you might try some of the larger buggers.

I'd tie some #12 WB's or even #14's in olive and black.
