Dreary day report

Since I had a freezer full of meat and a head at the taxidermist, I decided to call my buddy MTB and let him know I was ready to start giving him fishing lessons again. He said "lets go Saturday". Saturday rolled around, and I met him at the Powerhouse. They had 2 generators going, so we headed up into the by-pass.

The fishing was good and we caught lots of these.

At one time, we were visited by a family of otters. The fishing slowed down for a while afterwards, but picked back up shortly. They didn't exactly hold still for me to get a picture, but I tried.

I know some of you hate otters, but I don't, and think they only added to my experience for the day.

After lunch, we decided to head over to Tellico and try to catch a few in the delayed harvest section. There was a lack of fishermen, however the roads were crowded with bear hunters waiting for dogs, but they weren't a bother.

I had my personal best day for there. Not sure of the exact number of fish, but it was enough to lose count. Which can be any number greater than three. Here's a few of the fish I caught there.

The fly of the day was a variation of a size 10 BHPT that someone posted a recipe on here years ago. I've tied it in sizes 16 and 10, and that's pretty much the only nymph I fish with anymore.

I got to enjoy a bit through your photographs and write-up. Thanks for taking the time to share with us...Nice that you shared you fly too. I am sure the water was pretty dang cold; but, did you by chance take a temperature reading? - just for my curiosity and comparison.

I hate to break the news to you, but it isn't your computer that has the pictures screwed up, it's the picture taker.

Hook - Mustad Signature C49S, size 10
Bead - 1/8" bronze
Weight - 0.20 lead free (I like mine real heavy)
Tail - Pheasant tail fibers, natural
Rib - Fine copper
Abdomen - Pheasant tail fibers, natural
Wing looking thing - Spirit River, Hanked Lite-Brite, Polar Pearl (MTB, there you go, that's my secret)
Wingcase - Spirit River, Hanked Lite-Brite, Polar Pearl
Thorax - Peacock herl

Basically, it's a pheasnt tail with no legs and Lite-Brite for a wing and wingcase. The original recipe didn't have a wingcase, if I remember correctly. I tried a couple more pictures, but they aren't much better.

The temp on the HI was 40 or 41. MTB is the one with the termometer, and I remember him telling me that. I don't know if he took the temp on the Tellico. He isn't computer savy enough to figure out how to sign on to here again, or he might post the temp.

HA! HA! Guys... I did not take a water temperature at Tellico. Frustration had my attention like a busted boo rod and my fly landing in places other than the water. :mad: It's amazing how much better one fish can make you feel.:biggrin:

Good report. I have fished above the PH in the winter but find the rocks are slicker than greased glass. Have caught a few there. Good report and pix. Thanks for sharing.
