Has anyone ever fished coker creek?

I drive by it every once in a while and wonder the same thing.
I'd say access might be an issue. I think the majority of it flows through private land. I wonder about water temps too.

Access is pretty good actually, but water temps are marginal in the late summer. I used to hear tales of very large browns in the lower section near where it dumps into the Hiwassee. I fished the lower section once with only rock bass and couple of tiny smallmouth caught. I am not saying there are no browns down there, but I could not find any sign of them. Sampling results in the 90s turned up one wild rainbow trout total. It came from one of the tiny tribs upstream I guess. Bottom line is that Coker looks like great trout water, but is a tad warm.

Where exactly is it?

Coker Creek starts on the western slope of the mountains, runs SW and under Hwy 68 and empties into the Hiwassee River. It starts near the Coker Creek community which is about 20-25 miles north of Copperhill. Research Coker Creek as there was a gold strike there many years ago. People still pan for gold in the creeks and streams.

I have fished it many times. In fact really kind of learned to fly fish on it. But not for trout. The creek gets very warm and low almost every summer on the upper end well above coker creek falls, especially the last few years. I have caught untold numbers of redeye, redbreasts, and small smallmouth out of that little creek. There used to be a guy who stocked and held some large trout in Coker Creek and I once was lucky enough to cath a few of them. I have never fished the lower section near where it empties into the Hiwasse but have hiked in a good ways below Coker Creek Falls and fished and caught many red eye and even a few respectable smallies. Coker Creek falls is one of my favorite falls in the area when not crowded (and it seldom is).

Thanks for the replies. I heard some of those same stories about monster browns in the lower sections, but didn't know how the temps were in late summer. It looks good anyway.

There is another Hiwassee trib that I frequented that used to hold nice rainbows quite a few years ago, but doesn't seem to have much in it any longer, so maybe those stories about Coker Creek were true at one time. Who knows.

...People still pan for gold in the creeks and streams.

Last time I was up there, lots of eroded areas. I don't know if it was the miners or just poor land management, but either way, it doesn't help the fishery.
