Quill Gordons

My wife and I are expecting our first child any day now, so I haven’t really been able to make it to the mountains because I’m afraid of Murphy’s Law striking when I don’t have cell phone coverage. All I can do is make plans for this spring and tie flies. I’m getting really excited about the possibility that quill gordons might be hatching in a month or so. It’s some long overdue excitement after a long winter of tough fishing.

I also finished my new fly tying bench last weekend. It took a while to finish because there are no fasteners, just glue & biscuit joints, so there was a lot of time in the clamps. Made it out of some oak shelving that I found in my attic. Cherry Stain with 2 coats of Poly.

I've got a little 6.5' 3wt fiberglass rod that I'll pass down to him one day.

I'll say it again...great looking flies and I'm sure you'll enjoy that fine looking tying bench.

As soon as that baby is born we'll take him/her on a little fishing trip up to Abrams Creek or the Raven Fork. ;) Either should prove to be a pretty easy introduction to fly fishing in the park.

Your wife ACTUALLY lets you tie in the dining room? You are blessed!

Last winter while laid up in bed for many months after a foot surgery my wife let me tie in bed! Of course she slept in a different bedroom.

Nice bench. I've forgotten how many sets of waders and boots my son went through when growing up but the kids sizes pretty much cost as much as those for adults.... and their feet get larger every year.

I was looking at the weather forecast today on weather.com, looks like Sunday will start a warming trend. Next week we are supposed to see temps in the upper 50s all week. Once the upper elevation snow melt has gone, we should be well on our way to seeing these guys flying around....Fingers crossed.

I'm not done chasing birds just yet. It can do what ever it wants after February 28th.
