I made it up to Elkmont this past weekend and enjoyed a couple of days of fishing. The first day was great as I fished various spots along the road that I enjoy. The numbers of fish caught were not particularly incredible, but I did manage some quality fish. Several browns came to hand up to about 13-14 inches and the weather was gorgeous so I can't complain. The largest browns didn't seem to want their picture taken and escaped before I could get good pictures.

On the second day, I met up with Spotlight from this board to hike up above Elkmont in search of hatches and rising trout. We hit several nice pools and finally got in a good pocket water stretch and started to seriously work the water. The high point of the day for me was hooking a nice 15-16 inch brown on a nymph.

We found good numbers of insects hatching, predominantly brown stoneflies but also decent numbers of Quill Gordons and a few Blue Quills. The fish were rising although not as enthusiastically as I had hoped. The majority of my fish ended up coming on various nymphs because the action was much more consistent that way for me...

One interesting thing that happened was I caught a small YOY brookie at the bridge over LR just below the Huskey Gap Trail. That was easily the lowest I have ever caught a brookie on LR but not as low as the one that Buzzmcmanus posted yesterday. Very interesting to see specs showing up this low on LR...

Great report David and I am sorry you had to fish with spotlight. Just kidding he is a great guy and lots of fun. Where is that bridge at? I can't picture it on the LR trail. Looks like the goshen gate bridge but the water is way too low under it and the surrounding terrain doesn't look right.

Adam, Don't be tellin lies:eek: and yeah that is the Goshen Gate I love the angle David got of it in that photo. David takes some great photos and is much fun to fish with. Thanks David for a great trip!

Man there was so much water under it when we were there a week ago it looks like a totally different spot. You remember that trip where I got skunked and wussed out and left cause I was cold and broke a nail and all.

Great report and great fish. I will be fishing the NC side starting on Sunday through Wed....hope we have some decent weather, although it would be nice to have some of your good fortune to boot!

Yeah, unfortunately back to work now...this nice weather has me trying to figure out how to play hooky though...:rolleyes: :biggrin:

It was between 15"-16"...
