This spring has been GREAT, in the Great Smoky Mountains I have gotten up to the mountains a half dozen times already fishing, and never seem to get enough. Having a family day on Saturday meant Sunday was fishing day, and with record high temps, fishing should be great.
Freddie called me on Saturday from the trail (surprised he had signal) while hiking with his girlfriend asking me pull out a good topo and let him know what creek he was crossing on his hike . He said it looked pretty good, and about the size of Leconte creek, and thought it may be worth checking out for fishing. He asked my if I had ever heard of anyone fishing it, which I replied no, and he said either did he, so we made it a plan for Sunday
When you are willing to study maps and just wonder "what if" up every blue way, the results can vary from bushwhacks that offer no reward , to many creeks that are just mediocre , but sometimes you get the gem in the rough. I am happy to report that the fishing was "Specktacular" as Grouseman says, and I was really impressed by the size of the Brookies in this little creek. Freddie picked a real winner on this one, and since it's his find I'll leave it to him to disclose it.

And a view downstream

A beautiful one caught on a variation of the never sink caddis I seem to fish 6 months of the year.

And my best one of the day

I caught several dozen fishing behind Freddie most of the time. I'd say he caught at least double that. You would pull 4 or 5 out of each pool, and even the micro pockets were filled with willing hungry fish that would come back even when you missed them the first time. Maybe it was weather, the tons of bugs, the lack of fishing pressure, or any other of the thousands of variables, but all I know is that is was a great day fishing. Thanks again Freddie for the find.
Until the next adventure,
James
