Santeetlah Creek

Fished Santeetlah Creek today for about 45 minutes. The water was very high from last nights rains. Saw about 15 guys with white water canoes at one of the roadside campsites. I caught 2 average fish and lost another close to my feet. There was a small hatch, but the water was so high and quick, I thought putting a small dry on would be a waste of time.

It was the first time I had fished on the upper portion of the creek. Man is it a rhodo tunnel up there. It was also a beast of a climb out of that gorge.

Upper Santeetlah is a favorite of many Class 5 boaters. While I don't have the skills to be on that run, I would love to fish the gorge sometime. I bet it was thick in there. I have heard some bad stories of boaters having to hike out after a bad day, only to find there "bad day" had just begun. Rhodo hells seems more than fitting of a name. At least a fishing rod is much smaller than a kayak, life jacket, and paddle. All though the helmet would help I'm sure:eek:

I'm sure it would be a real gem in lower water:biggrin:
