Tremont - 5/7/11

Got up[ early and went to Tremont. I know early isnt the best time right now, but I'll take what I can get. I started with a big yellow Neversink caddis, with a caddis larva dropper. In my first two casts I had two small rainbows on teh dry. Then I had a big splash, and a big fish, probably 12" on for a few seconds before my flies came zinging back at me.
I ended up cutting of the dropper and just fishing the dry the rest of the day.

This was the biggest I brought to hand today, about 9 inches.

I lost as many as I caught, and had a ton of missed strikes. Then around 10:30 the action stopped. I did notice these guys were coming out everywhere, so I should have changed my fly, but I didnt really have anything to change to.
This guy crawled up my leg to hatch. There were all over the rocks today.

9 inches in the park is a good day indeed:smile:

The wife & I hiked to Ramsey's Cascade today, and at her request I didn't bring the fishing pole:frown:

As we hiked by beautiful hole after hole, and she saw how I longed for a little fishing she must have felt a little guilty as she said I can bring the rod next time:biggrin:

Did sucker her into climbing above the cascade which gave us a bit of solitude from the dozen or so lookers at the falls. I tried to get her to hike up to the upper cascade, but she's not much on rock hopping & declined so we just hung out there for a while then headed back to K-town via Carver's Apple House for some dinner.

The water above the cascade looked perfect for fishing, and I'm determined to figure it out pretty soon if it does indeed have any fish in it:smile:

Didn't see any fisherman, which I thought was odd, except for 3 people spin fishing on Lower Middle Prong miles downstream from the park. Where were the rest of you guys?

I was fishing a stretch a little below the trail head, but didn't get there until about 5:30, black Honda Accord parked in a pull off. Not a great day, but I caught my biggest rainbow in the park, 9~10 incher, of course he flopped out of my hand before I could snap a picture. I'll be up around Ramsey Prog tomorrow afternoon. I've read that the higher you go up Ramsey the lower the PH and less fish, but let us know how you do if you try. I love fishing that area.
