We had a family camping trip up to Cherokee, but I was able to get away for about 12-15 hours of fishing in 3 days....the good thing was that it was first thing in the morning and first thing in the evening.
It was my most productive fishing in the Park. For the small amount of time I spent fishing I ended up catching over 50 fish. The remarkable thing was that 80% of the fish that I caught were browns, in a stream that normally yields more rainbows.
Sunday morning I caught over 20 fish in 2 hours, all but two were browns. I kept a stringer of 5 fish for the pan, all were between 10-11 inches with one 12 inch brown.
Over my time I ended up catching 3 browns at or just over 12 inches and a rainbow just over 12 inches. In addition I had two nice browns that were probably pushing 13-14 inches come off. Both of those fish took me up or down stream as soon as they felt the hook.
I was using a dry and dropper, either a yellow stimi, tarantula, hopper, and a green weenie dropper. The fish took both readily with the green weenie maybe slightly leading the total. On the last evening I fished with two dries, a taranula and a beetle and caught about 15 with each fly being about even.
One of the 12inch browns I caught was on a yellow foam hopper, and he really came up and nailed it.
There were times when I thought I saw a shadow move....set the hook and sure enought there was a nice brown on the other end. I will post some of the pictures as soon as I get a chance.
