So today I took my boy to Gatlinburg (god forbid)... I had promised him I would teach him to fly-fish. On his first trip (he's six... and a half!) he caught six trout and many horny heads... on a fly. All stocker rainbows in the 12 inch range but still it was amazing. We were fishing a nymph under an indicator and he could flip it out, get a drift, and set the hook. I caught four or five myself.
We did have one unique moment. We had just changed flies and he hooked a trout... (I rookied the knot.) and there was a curly Q on the end of the line. I admitted to him that it was my fault... Less than five minutes later he caught the same trout and we recovered the fly... there is something to be said for a stocker... lol.
Nonetheless, it was an amazing first trip as a fly-fisherman. I couldn't be prouder.
